5 Making Life Easier Tips for Computer Users

line

After those lovely sunny days this summer, I hope you are feeling relaxed and refreshed. Computers should help you get more done with less stress. Organising all those floating bits of information that you need at different times for different projects can be challenging. But get it right and you have the information you need at your fingertips. Minimising nasty stuff getting in to upset your computer is sensible. And dealing with a problem when it shows up, rather than when it is a crisis, will all help ensure happy times for you with your computer.

Collect, Sort & Find Easily

Collect, Sort & Find Easily OneNote is the place for gathering, organizing, searching, and sharing notes, clippings, thoughts, reference materials, and other information. All your notes will be visible there, organized by notebooks, sections, and pages.

The find feature finds any word in any note fast. The screen clipping feature is powerful. Microsoft OneNote comes with the Office software package.

Declutter to Speed UpDeclutter to Speed Up

Clutter in your computer can slow it down. When you delete items, bits stay on your harddrive until overwritten. If Windows Vista runs your computer, the easiest way to cleanup your hard drive is to open 'Start' then 'Control Panel' then 'System and Maintenance' then Performance and Tools' then choose 'Open Disk Cleanup'.

First it will assess how much space you can clear with your cleanup. Then you decide whether to go ahead or not. If you are using Windows XP you open 'Start' then 'Control Panel' then 'Accessories' then 'System Tools' then 'Disk Cleanup'.

Prevention is Cheaper than Cure

Prevention is Cheaper than Cure If your computer starts making strange noises; or giving strange messages, or slows down unexpectedly, it is best not to wait around. Unlike the human body, computers aren’t self-healing.

The earlier A1 Computers can attend to the patient the less time and money it should take to cure your computer.

Speed Up with Quick AccessSpeed Up with Quick Access

The Quick Access toolbar is the line of icons to the right of the Circular Office Button, in the top left hand corner of your computer screen.

Each Microsoft Office 2007 program has hundreds of functions but you probably use less than ten. Simply right click the ones you use a lot, and select the option ‘Add to Quick Access Toolbar’. Now the icon will sit in the toolbar beside the Circular Office Button. All the functions you use often will now be in one place.

Stop Annoying SPAM

Stop Annoying SPAMSet up a GMAIL account, as gmail has a very effective spam filter. Go to google.com and select gmail. As I use Outlook to send and receive emails, I have simply linked my Gmail account to this.

So when I choose to send and receive email, Outlook collects any new email from my Gmail account minus the spam. And when I am on my travels, I simply log into gmail directly to send and receive emails. Or use my mobile to send and receive emails using gmail.
